Rwanda Jarama Estate

Whole Bean Coffee

Price range: $23.00 through $37.00

Jarama Estate sits high above Lake Kivu in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke region, an area known for steep volcanic hillsides and ideal coffee growing conditions. The estate is operated by the Kivubelt group, founded by Furaha Umwizey, whose work focuses on producing high quality coffees while strengthening the surrounding farming community through training, infrastructure, and access to washing stations.

Coffee grows here at elevations approaching 2,000 meters, where cooler temperatures allow Bourbon varieties to mature slowly and develop greater complexity. The cherries are carefully harvested and processed using the traditional washed method. After pulping, the coffee undergoes controlled fermentation, is thoroughly washed, and then dried slowly on raised beds to preserve quality and consistency.

Rwanda has earned a reputation for coffees that balance brightness with refined sweetness, and this lot reflects the region well. It is particularly rewarding at light to medium roast levels where its structure and clarity come forward. The cup translates beautifully across brew methods, from clean and expressive pour overs to lively single origin espresso.
